| The quilts in this gallery are my explorations of embroidery, techniques, and original design. Kate’s Muse and Sunburst are small pieces that a photograph is imprinted on silk and is entirely machine embroidered. I refer to them as thread paintings. Garden Stroll and Emotional Explosion are three-dimensional. They have a fabric flow influenced by Chihuly’s glass. I became fascinated with the idea of the fabrics moving. My Rainbow is an installation piece. As I worked with these individual colors, they told me they wanted to stand alone, together. It was reminiscent of my daughters, so different yet very closely connected. Gramma’s Shower suggests a safe place with family who love you. As I have continued on, I have realized that while starting with a simple image, each evolved into an amazing story with underlying plot lines including exquisite twists and turns. |
